Why does my reply count in Topo not match the number of email notifications I received?
Last updated: August 13, 2026
Context
You may notice that the number of replies shown in Topo (e.g., on your dashboard or in reports) is higher than the number of email notifications or emails you actually received. This article explains why this discrepancy occurs.
Answer
There are two main reasons why your reply count in Topo may be higher than the number of email alerts you received:
1. Replies include both Email and LinkedIn responses
Topo's reply counter includes all types of replies, not just email responses. This includes:
Email replies
LinkedIn message replies
Accepted LinkedIn invitations
To read the conversations themselves, go to your Master Inbox. Note that the Inbox lists conversations, not raw reply events, so accepted LinkedIn invitations and bounces will not appear there. For the event by event breakdown, use the Activity Feed.
2. "Out of office" or "No longer at company" replies are not notified
When Topo's AI agent detects that a reply indicates the contact has left the company (or similar automated/out-of-office responses), it annotates the reply accordingly and does not send a notification for it. This is by design, to avoid cluttering your alerts with non-actionable responses.
These replies are still visible and counted in your reply metrics, but you will not receive an email or Slack alert for them.
