How Lists and Sequences interact

The goal of this article is to understand how Lists and Sequences interact with each other and how you can use them to your best advantage.


Understanding their relation

Lists can exist without being linked to a Sequence. You could build a list without reaching out to every contact in it.

Sequences need leads coming from one or more lists, otherwise you won’t reach out to anyone.

A List can only be connected to an active Sequence. You cannot link a List to a Sequence with Setup, Finishing or Inactive status.

How they work together

Think of lists as who you're reaching out to and sequences as how you're reaching out. Because they're independent, you can:

  • Assign the same list to only one sequence. If a list is already linked to another sequence, you can still link it to a new one, but it will be disconnected from the initial sequence.

  • Feed multiple lists into a single sequence to scale outreach without duplicating setup.

  • Build lists now and activate them later when your sequence is ready.

Monitoring vs Daily contacted leads

When creating lists, you can activate the Monitoring function. This will tell the AI agent to add a fixed number of leads to the List on a recurring basis (Daily or Weekly).

Once a list is linked to a sequence, it will gradually enroll all the leads in the sequence.

You then need to select the number of leads you want to contact each day. This number tells the agent how many leads associated to the sequence will receive messages each day.

Monitoring and leads contacted per day are completely de-correlated. Each of them is independent from the other, because each sequence can be linked to multiple lists.

Note: After connecting a list to a sequence, leads may take a few minutes to appear.
