How do I exclude specific job titles when building a list?

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Context

When building a lead search, you may want to leave out people whose job title contains certain words that contain specific keywords (e.g. "program", "finance", "audit"), or other terms that don't match your target criteria. The platform provides filtering options to help you refine your search results.

Answer

Use the Job Titles filter and mark those words as exclusions.

  1. In your lead search, find Job Titles in the Contact group, or type it in Search a filter.

  2. Type the word you want to leave out, for example "finance".

  3. Click the red exclusion icon next to it. The green tick would include it instead.

  4. It shows as a red chip. Repeat for each word.

The search reruns as soon as you apply the value.

Good to know

  • You only need part of the title. "operations" excludes "Marketing operations manager", "VP Operations", "Head of Revenue Operations" and so on.

  • Excluding in Job Titles is more precise than excluding in Person Keywords, which searches the whole profile.

  • For exact titles, do the same in Exact Job Titles.

  • Include and exclude can sit in the same filter. For example, include "sales" and exclude "assistant".
